May 2025 Ever since I was little, art has been a huge part of my life. I’ve always been drawn (no pun intended) to expressing myself and my imagination in a physical form, as when I was younger I used to incoherently skribble what to me were superheroes. From there, I tried many different ways to improve my art and find a community behind it. I finally found it in a small art school run by my idol, Ms. Dottie. She took us on field trips throughout Chicago, taking us on architecture tours and led us on explorations through museums where she encouraged us to find a bench, pop in an airpod, and draw what we saw. At the end of every year, we would pick 5 art pieces, title them, and display them at the local library at our annual Art Show. Because of her, I learned that art is more than just lead on a piece of paper. Art is history, art is expression, art is culture, art is rebellion, art is uniquely you. Since my departure as a student, Dottie’s has grown tremendously, and rightfully so. If you are reading reviews considering whether or not to put your kids through her art studio or even join yourself, do it, it’s so worth it. She is an amazing teacher that creates an environment that encourages self expression and allowed me the opportunity to make lifelong friends. THANK YOU DOTTIE!!!

Dotties Jr. Art League
The art league is as much a art club as an art class. It is an excellent solution for those students that really aren't into sports and have a creative side to them that they want to explore. However, by no means does this mean that art is all that they can do if they attend these classes...I encourage well-roundedness. Students experience camaraderie and form life long friendships! This is because every year is different, and students sign up again and again. Some students have attended classes for up to 10 years in a row! It's really fun for me to watch their talents blossom! Classes run for a whole school year, but students are welcome to start at any time (classes break for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Easter.) Students meet for 2 hours each week. Classes meet after school or during the day for home school students and are limited to 11-12 students/class per teacher. Students host an annual art show open to the friends and family at the end of the school year to display some of their artwork. Students explore a variety of mediums (pen & ink, charcoal, acrylic and watercolor painting, pastels, colored pencils, carving and even weaving!) while learning new techniques in art. We delve into the basics in art, sketching, shading, and color theory! Students also learn about different artists in history as part of understanding different art periods and styles. When conditions allow, students enjoy art related field trips such as the Art Institute in Downtown Chicago, Architecture Tours in Chicago or Museum of Science and Industry. Visiting Artists host presentations for students to help them learn the many facets an artist can go with their art as they mature and show how art is used in the "real world". Annual Art Show
We hosted four art shows for students at local Libraries. All shows were a great success, with standing room only attendance both days. Art Show is in May and Art Work is displayed for 2 weeks.
